Carl Fried, Physical Therapist
Carl began his education of physical therapy at Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. While studying there, he assisted in group physical therapy classes at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He then worked as a physical therapy aide at Southwest Physical Therapy, an outpatient/sports medicine clinic. Carl also participated in clinicals at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Center of Gurnee, and the Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center. He graduated with honors in1996, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Immediately after earning his degree, he joined the physical therapy team at K Valley Orthopedics, P.C./Southwestern Michigan Sportsmedicine Clinic.
Carl is certified in biomechanical analysis of the foot and ankle, casting and fitting for custom orthotics. Completing advanced course work Levels I-III of the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, he has also trained and completed course work in myofascial release therapy, strain/counterstrain techniques, McConnell approach to shoulder and knee dysfunction, and the Gary Gray chain reaction program. He has presented workshops at Western Michigan University on Low Back Rehabilitation, Functional Shoulder Rehabilitation, and Advanced ACL Rehabilitation and Performance Testing. He is currently working towards completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Andrews University.
Carl enjoys competing in marathons and triathlons. For 2 years he was on the medical staff for the Standard Federal 10k race. He is also a certified run/walk coach for “Team in Training” where he trains athletes of all levels to compete in a marathon while raising money for the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Spending time outside of work he has participated in the Big Brother/Big Sisters Program from 1996 to 2004. For four years, he was a Sunday School Teacher at St. Joseph’s Parish, and had helped the First Presbyterian Church Free Walk-In Health Clinic.
Carl and his wife, LeAnne, and their daughter currently reside in Kalamazoo.
