Athletic Trainer / Director of High School Programs
Director of High School Programs, Jeff Willson is now entering his 22nd year at K Valley Orthopedics, P.C./Southwestern Michigan Sportsmedicine Clinic.
A 1976 graduate of Hillsdale College, Willson earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Education before completing his Masters degree at Western Michigan University in Physical Education/Sports Medicine & Athletic Training.
After spending two years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Hillsdale College, Willson joined the athletic staff at Western Michigan University as a Graduate Athletic Trainer. He then started work as an Orthopedic Technician at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Following one year of graduate work, Willson was part of a four person group that opened the Sportsmedicine Clinic on the campus of WMU in August of 1980. During this time, he had volunteered as a Staff Trainer for both the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and the North Junior Elite Volleyball Program in Kalamazoo. Willson then became the Strength Coach for Western Michigan University’s Women’s Volleyball Team. In 1984, he left the University to join the medical staff at the newly formed Southwestern Michigan Sportsmedicine Clinic, but continued as the volleyball team’s Strength Coach for another two years. Later, in 1989, he became the Physical Training Coach for the women’s volleyball team at Portage Northern High School. He continued his position at the high school until 1996. Willson has continued as a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 1974 and is also a member of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society.
As well being a big part of the training staff for the KVO “SMART” program, he currently directs the High School Programs, and works in the K Valley Orthopedics, P.C./Southwestern Michigan Sportsmedicine Clinic P.T. department during the summer months.
Jeff and his wife, Carol, have one child (Drew, 15) and reside in Kalamazoo.
